Description
This project involved the design and permit documentation for a brand new agricultural storage building at Cliff Lede Vineyards in Yountville, California. Designed for an active Napa Valley winery and vineyard, the building provides secure and accessible storage for tools, equipment, materials, and other items used in daily vineyard operations.
The 20-foot by 30-foot vineyard storage shed has an open interior that allows the space to remain flexible as the winery’s storage needs change. A large 12-foot-wide coiling metal door provides convenient access for equipment and supplies, while a separate pedestrian door allows for regular daily use. Fixed windows bring natural light into the building without taking away valuable storage space.
The agricultural storage building uses wood-frame construction over a reinforced concrete slab and foundation. Its gable roof, vertical board-and-batten siding, wood trim, standing-seam metal roofing, and simple agricultural form were selected to complement the existing winery buildings and surrounding vineyard landscape. The approximately 14-foot ridge height also provides additional clearance for storing larger vineyard equipment and materials.
Careful site planning was required to place the new winery storage building around existing property conditions, including vineyard operations, access roads, fencing, overhead power lines, and nearby wastewater ponds. The building was designed as a Group U agricultural storage occupancy with Type V-B construction and does not include plumbing, electrical, gas, or other utility connections.
The project scope included a site plan, floor and roof plans, exterior elevations, building sections, foundation and framing plans, architectural and structural details, permit documentation, and coordination with project consultants. Our services included architectural design, structural coordination, consultant coordination, and building permit support for the vineyard storage building.
